Hair is a woman's pride, the wealth of any girl or woman. But winter weather conditions do not have the best effect on the condition of hair. Hair becomes dull, with split ends, begins to fall out more, and does not look as vibrant and beautiful. Moreover, in winter we insulate ourselves with hats and other warm headwear, not allowing our hair to fully breathe. Therefore, during winter and cold periods, you need to take extra care of your hair. And of course, those products that we are used to using in the summer should still be slightly different from the cosmetics used in winter. For example, shampoo used in the summer and during the warm season will not help achieve good results in the cold season. Therefore, you need to take a responsible approach to choosing the right shampoo for winter. How to choose it correctly? What should you pay attention to? Let's find out.

Hair type

First of all, you should choose a shampoo based on your hair type. There are the following varieties: normal, dry, oily and mixed.

  • If you are the happy owner of normal hair, then you should not choose shampoos that contain any additional ingredients, in addition to the main ones contained in the shampoo.
  • Those with dry hair should take a closer look at shampoos that contain moisturizing ingredients. These can be natural oils (olive, shea butter and shea butter), as well as extracts from medicinal herbs, such as strawberry extract, chamomile and others.

  • If you have oily hair, pay attention to mild shampoos with a minimum of aggressive ingredients in the composition. Charcoal and sea clay in the shampoo are what you need.
  • If you have mixed hair type, then you need soft-based shampoos, and dry ends should be moisturized and nourished with additional caring masks.

What other factors should be considered when choosing shampoo in winter?

Quality

When choosing a shampoo suitable for winter use, choose high-quality and proven brands. It is better to buy an expensive, well-known shampoo that cares for your hair in the best way than to test the quality of cheap shampoos on your already weakened hair. Over time, your hair will thank you for a high-quality, correctly selected shampoo.

Components included

Buy shampoos with natural beneficial ingredients that help moisturize the scalp and hair. For example, with panthenol. Panthenol penetrates into the hair and increases it, and also gives the hair shine. As for natural moisturizers, the following natural ingredients are considered the most effective: shea butter, jojoba, wheat germ, avocado, coconut, and olive oil. The more such useful components are present in the shampoo, the higher the value and effectiveness of the shampoo used in cold winter. For elasticity, essential moisture and silky hair, look for shampoos that contain silk proteins and hyaluronic acid.

Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, any shampoo, regardless of price and quality, contains surfactants. Surfactants are surface-active substances whose main function is to remove dirt from the surface of the head and hair. But all shampoos still differ in these substances, as well as in the amount included in the shampoo. You should not buy shampoos with Ammonium lauryl (laureth) sulfate - this is the most harmful of all surfactants, capable of causing dry hair and irritation of the scalp, which are completely useless to us. For use in winter, it is still worth choosing shampoos based on sodium lauryl (laureth) sulfate. Such shampoos do not cause such negative symptoms and clean perfectly.

Preservatives

Try to avoid parabens in shampoos.

Detergents (surfactants)

The Argan Oil & Horse Keratin series is indispensable for the care of dull and lifeless hair. The shampoo contains argan oil, which nourishes the hair roots, moisturizes the hair, protects it from negative environmental factors, gives the hair shine, well-groomed appearance, and softness. Horse keratin restores hair structure, revives damaged areas, moisturizes, gives hair shine and volume

If your hair begins to “craw out” in winter, Compliment shampoo “Burdock Oil” with a decoction of herbs will help]] Try not to use shampoos containing silicones, parabens and other harmful ingredients. Hair in winter needs proper care, and a properly selected shampoo should contain a maximum of useful and natural ingredients, excluding the presence of preservatives.

As you can see, everything is not so complicated and thus, all these points will help you choose the right shampoo in winter. To avoid severe hair damage during this period, use the following tips:

  • - Choose the right shampoo based on your hair type, paying attention to the composition, quality, and price of the shampoo.
  • - Strengthen your body from the inside by taking vitamins A, B and C. This will also have a great effect on the condition of your hair.
  • - Try not to subject your hair to frequent heat treatment. That is, dry your hair with a hair dryer and use irons and curling irons as needed.
  • - Do not dye your hair in winter. The same goes for perm. Postpone these procedures at least until spring.

In summer, hair is exposed to the drying effects of the scorching sun, while in winter it is dried out by central heating. AND negative impact batteries and heaters are sometimes stronger. Bleached hair and chemically permed hair are especially affected. Therefore, in winter, moisturizing hair products - masks, balms and rinses - are extremely necessary.

It is better to set the hair dryer to a gentle setting and try not to dry out your hair after washing. It is better not to completely dry your hair with a hairdryer, but to allow your hair to dry at room temperature.

Using hairspray, due to its alcohol content, also contributes to dry hair. You should also not overuse hairspray in wet and windy weather - in this case, your hair will look worse than without fixation. It is wise to use styling gels and mousses with a stronger hold than usual, rather than overloading your hair with a large amount of the usual product - if your hair gets flattened under your headdress, it will be much easier to restore it.
Hair care in winter. Additional nutrition for hair in winter

Masks before washing your hair are very effective. These can be ready-made products - they are effective and easy to use. However, from time to time it is recommended to remember such folk recipes like a mask of warm yogurt (kefir) or heated burdock oil. Masks nourish and restore hair structure well. You need to leave them on for about forty minutes, after which you wash your hair as usual.
Proper hair care in winter

The famous “2 in 1” products, which are shampoo and conditioner in one bottle, are best reserved for emergencies such as a business trip or vacation. When used frequently, they do not provide the necessary nutrition and hydration to the hair. In addition, the active components included in such products tend to be deposited at the very roots, depriving the hair of its fullness. And hair volume is especially important in winter time when you have to hide your hair under caps and hats.

Hair care in winter. How often should you wash your hair in winter?

In winter, you may have to wash your hair more often due to more active work sebaceous glands. There is no need to use too hot water to wash your hair. Hot water promotes more active functioning of the sebaceous glands.
Hats

Under hats, not only does the hairstyle become deformed, but the scalp also experiences a greater need for air. Unfortunately, you can’t do without a hat at all in cold weather. The body's reaction to low temperatures can be to create a layer of fat under the scalp - in this way the body will escape the cold and provoke hair loss. In addition, in the cold, the blood vessels of the head narrow, and the supply of vitamins and nutrients to the scalp is greatly limited. The maximum temperature at which you can do without a hat is minus 5 degrees Celsius. Staying in a hat for a long time deprives the scalp of the ability to breathe. Therefore, it is not recommended to wear a hat indoors. It is better if the hat is made of natural rather than synthetic fiber. If you don’t want to crumple your beautiful hairstyle under a hat, then you can choose clothes with a comfortable hood.
Winter hair care and vitamins

In winter it is necessary to take vitamins. The diet must contain vitamins such as A, C, E, and B vitamins. Specially developed vitamin complexes They won’t let your hair get too tired over the winter.
Winter hair care and nutrition

In winter, hair becomes oily very quickly, and shampoos for oily hair irritate the scalp - it begins to flake and itch. In winter, first of all, you need to pay attention to nutrition. By reducing the amount of fatty and spicy foods, you will significantly help your secretion to balance the production of sebum in stressful conditions for the body and hair, in particular winter conditions.

How does my winter care generally differ from, for example, summer care?

Nothing fundamentally, but there are a couple of points that I will tell you.

In winter I choose more nutritious shampoos and don’t allow myself to use those that dry out even a little or clean until squeaky clean
I'm starting to make a mask instead of once a week 2
With the onset of such severe frosts, I add a Pulse care per length
I apply Necessarily leave-in treatment for ends
If necessary, I enter hair spray with antistatic effect
It also happens that I do something regularly deep hair restoration procedure(I chemistry something myself or buy it from some company)

These are the basic principles of my winter care, because my hair really does not like low temperatures and breaks a lot if it is not protected.

This year I had a serious acquaintance with the company Kaaral. And I will say that it is very pleasant)) At the moment I have 6 products from one company in care, and this is more than half of everything... this never happened... for a long time))))

Shampoos
By tradition, I have 2 of them in my care. That’s how I like it))

Nourishing shampoo / Color Nourishing Shampoo MARAES. This shampoo has been with me for a long time. I can say that it is very economical, I still have half of it for sure. I talked about it in a post about Kaaral Beauty Box and my opinion hasn’t changed a bit. I was not disappointed, but on the contrary, I fell in love with him even more, he treats my hair very carefully and makes it really more beautiful day after day.

Restoring shampoo for straight damaged hair / Sleek Empowering Shampoo MARAES. I received this shampoo from gift from Kaaral for winning the competition. I haven’t been using it for very long yet, but I can spoil it a little. It is heavier than the first one. The first time I washed my hair with it, then I applied milk and oil - I got nothing less than icicles on my head)) It is better to use with lighter conditioners and one leave-in product. I liked how it emphasizes the beauty of my straight hair - it’s not for nothing that it was created for this purpose.

Deep cleaning shampoo from TSUBAKI. It seems to have been discontinued, I bought it at a big discount. The shampoo is unique and I decided not to bother you with unnecessary information about it. It is specific, but cleanses very well. I wouldn’t buy it a second time, even though I have a positive attitude towards this company.

Balms
They will probably surprise you, but I use up balms very quickly and I don’t see the point in spending a lot of money on them.

Nourishing balm NATURA SIBERICA Tuva. I took it in a fit of shopaholism and was right! It has a liquid consistency, smoothes and even moisturizes hair. I don’t demand more from him, after all, this is the nature of the Siberian)) Surprisingly, I really liked him.

Balm-rinse Fructis LASTING COLOR. I recently took it with me on a trip to the seaside and was equally pleased with it. It has a slightly greasy consistency and also performs all the stated functions, but I liked the shampoo from this series much, much more! The balm is not bad, but there are better comrades in the mass market.

Mask

Nourishing mask / Color Nourishing Mask MARAES. I really love it from the first sample. It suited my hair perfectly. It makes them denser and has a good restorative effect. What you need for winter! She has been with me for a long time and also has not disappointed me a day, I hope to dedicate a separate review to her.
Leave-in products

Leave-in restoring spray for direct damaged areas / Sleek Empowering Shampoo MARAES. I also got it as a gift from Kaaral. Well, what kind of spray is this?!!! This is milk! Despite the fact that it says to shake before use, I couldn’t do it, it’s dense) but the first time I sprayed it on my hair heartily and got icicles, the second time I made the same mistake and thought, what kind of misunderstanding is this? Now I’ve gotten the hang of it and do 2 pumps on my palm, and then smear it through my hair. Yes, that’s perfect, I guess. I haven’t been testing for long, my impressions are raw. This series smells like coconut, by the way)

Oil / Color Nourishing Olium MARAES. This is the third gift from Kaaral. Sometimes I talk about this oil, why is it so expensive? And I still can’t understand. I apply oil on one side for 400 rubles, and on the other it makes no difference at all) perhaps it will manifest itself over time, because the description says that it intensively restores. In any case, it is very pleasant to use, an expensive fragrance, a wonderful effect, and only the lazy one did not say how pleasantly fragrant my hair is after this line.

Additional funds

Long-lasting volume builder Luxurious Volume 7-Day John Frieda. Somehow, this fall, the problem of volume on my head captured me and I decided to try to create it in every possible way)) I came across this thing. The promises are very tempting!
Strengthens thin hair for up to 7 days. The product gives a lasting result and fixes volume, thanks to the action of Protein and Keratin, even if you wash your hair several times. This new long-lasting volumizer increases hair volume in the shower for up to 7 days.

I washed my hair, applied this stuff, held it in, rinsed it off, dried it and the volume was ready! Ah, if only everything were so sweet)) in fact, we have a substance that weighs down my hair so much that even in my soul I already felt how heavy my head was. Yes, there is volume, but the hair looks very untidy, disheveled and unpleasant to the touch. I tried this remedy once... and I want a second time, so that I can finally understand whether I need it or not, but some unknown force is holding me back))

Lotion to restore the balance of sebaceous gland secretion / Kaaral Lozione Seboequilibrante K05.
Everyone already knows that I have very oily hair and I wash it every day. If you didn’t know yet, know))) There are a couple of products that are able to control the greasiness of my scalp and Kaaral is in the lead.
Everything is simple here. I washed my hair, dried it with a towel, applied an ampoule, massaged it and that’s it)) and this needs to be done only 2 times a week, please note! Not every day. The course in the box lasts 12 weeks, i.e. 1 ampoule for 1 time. After 12 weeks, maximum results are achieved. Half an ampoule is enough for my hair at a time. And it’s not the redneck in me that speaks, but it really is so. If I apply the entire ampoule to my head, they will leak. There is absolutely no discomfort when applied.

We have a 4-week course under our belt, what do we have? Prolonging head freshness for 1 day, i.e. +1. No daily washing, I wash it every other day. Crazy hair growth. And this was noted not only by me, but by all my friends who saw me with a recent haircut and oops, I’m kind of long-haired again. Well, in the composition of the herb-ant, which also has a beneficial effect on hair growth, the concentration is high - it is also effective. These ampoules are a must-have, which I recommend, but I still have a long way to go with them.

The photo shows hair after Kaaral nourishing shampoo and mask.

This is how I got my treatment for the first half of winter, it’s not too cold yet, but the temperature is below zero. The colder it gets, the more I will add elements to the care and get all my weapons ready for winter.

Winter is a period of great stress for our hair, when all the problems that did not bother us too much at other times of the year worsen. For example, oily hair becomes even more greasy, dry hair loses its shine even more, splits and cracks from static electricity. The reasons for such troubles lie on the surface: it is all due to low temperatures outside, dry air from central heating in homes and offices, wearing hats, lack of vitamins and imbalance of nutrients in the diet. The situation is aggravated by the fact that often hair care in winter is no different from care at other times of the year, but our curls during this difficult period require increased care and attention.

What to do if your hair falls out in winter?

In most cases, women complain about two main problems with their hair in winter: it becomes electrified and falls out. A slight increase in hair loss in winter is not a cause for alarm, but this state of affairs should not be ignored.

Protecting hair from winter loss

Include products containing burdock extract and burdock oil in your winter care routine. It is better if the shampoo, conditioner and mask are made by the same manufacturer: as a rule, such a complex is built on the principle of addition, that is, each subsequent product complements and enhances the previous one. We also recommend purchasing a non-greasy hair root serum that strengthens hair follicles. You need to use it 3-4 times a week, rubbing it into the scalp after washing before applying styling products and drying your hair. The serum will not only help reduce hair loss, but also increase its shine and remove static charge.

Introduce a scalp massage using your fingertips into your care program. Do not rub the skin, rather press lightly with your fingers and move your hands so that your fingers remain in place. Thus, you seem to move the skin, which improves blood microcirculation and promotes a more intense supply of nutrients to the hair follicles.

If your hair becomes electrified in winter

The reason for hair electrification in winter is dry indoor air and contact with outerwear made of wool and synthetics. This is greatly facilitated by wearing a hat lined with non-natural fabric. In addition, it is obvious that in such conditions, a hair dryer, curling iron, curlers and other familiar styling tools aggravate the situation. The reasons are clear, but what should you do if your hair becomes electrified in winter?

Hydration is our first aid. It is necessary to moisturize not only the curls, but also the air in the room. At the same time, you need to understand that wetting the hair with water only temporarily removes static; after drying, the hair begins to electrify with renewed vigor. Therefore, make sure that you have a special antistatic spray in your arsenal of care products. It can be used both when styling your hair and during the day. You should also select styling products and rinse aid with a similar effect. Many companies produce winter series for hair care.

If you wash your hair before going out, be sure to dry it completely before heading outside. Frost destroys the protective layer of wet hair, making it brittle and porous, which leads to breakage and split ends.

Hair care rules in winter

Hair care in winter is generally similar to everyday care, but in addition to the usual actions, some restrictions must be observed. To protect your hair from drying out in winter, follow simple winter care rules.

1. Let's lower the temperature

Contrary to the natural tendency to make the water in the shower hotter in winter, lower the temperature of the stream slightly when you wash your hair. The advice applies equally to any hair type: oily roots will become less greasy, dry strands and ends will break less.

2. Wear hats correctly

On the one hand, a hat electrifies your hair, but you can’t do without it, even if you care more about the immediate attractiveness of your hairstyle than your long-term health and beauty. Even a short stay in the cold with your head uncovered disrupts blood circulation in the vessels, causing them to immediately spasm. This leads to stress on the hair follicles and hair loss. If possible, choose a hat with a lining made from natural fabric or synthetic material that does not impede air circulation. A silk lining is ideal: it will “smooth out” the hair scales and make your hair shine.

Do not create an airtight cap on your head, do not allow your scalp to sweat, and do not forget to remove your hat indoors. Another tip: don’t skimp on a few silk pillowcases; Believe me, you will forget about the lack of shine and unruly curls very quickly.

Short hair is usually completely hidden under a hat, but a girl’s long locks are often let out over her fur coat. Of course, this is beautiful, but it is unacceptable for hair health: frost causes it to lose moisture and become brittle.

3. No to plastic

Do not use metal combs, not only in winter, but in general. Replace the usual plastic brush with a wooden or silicone one: your hair will become easier to style, with less splitting and static. Brushing with natural bristles and silicone teeth is well suited for styling. Don't comb your hair unnecessarily, it will only damage your hair. It is better to replace the brush massage with a manual one.

4. Lightness and naturalness

If possible, reduce the amount of styling products and at least occasionally allow your hair to dry naturally. The less foam and varnish there is on your curls, the better they will look when you take off the cap. This advice especially relevant for oily hair. In any case, minimize contact of styling products with the scalp.

If you regularly use a hair dryer, do not skimp on purchasing one with air ionization. According to consumer reviews and manufacturers' statements, using an ionic hair dryer dries out hair less and makes styling easier.

As the temperature outside the window drops, the condition of the hair worsens: it gets dirty faster, splits at the ends, loses its shine, and becomes electrified. All this suggests that in the autumn-winter period they need special protection and additional care - air conditioning alone will not get you off. Let's look at the most common mistakes when caring for hair during cold weather with stylist and trichologist-consultant Anna Portkova.

Anna Portkova Trichologist-consultant

Don't wear a hat

Many blame the hat for all the troubles with their hair: it makes them electrified, gets dirty faster, and the scalp lacks oxygen. Styling also suffers: under a headdress, the chances of maintaining it are zero. In part, this is true. But without a hat, your hair suffers even more. A sharp change in temperature provokes a spasm of blood vessels in the scalp, which disrupts the nutrition of the follicles. Hair loses its shine, elasticity, and begins to break off.

Never go outside after using a hair dryer - let the strands cool for 5-10 minutes. An alternative to a hat is a scarf: it’s fashionable, warm, and the styling is preserved.

Using a hair dryer on hair that is too wet

Never dry your hair as soon as you step into the shower. Pat them dry with a towel and let them dry naturally (at least 5 minutes). Just blot it, and don’t wipe it - wet hair is easy to damage due to mechanical stress.

During the drying process, it is important to choose the correct temperature and air direction: the flows should be directed at an angle in the direction of the cuticle.

Remember: warm air is enough for drying; hot air is used only for styling.

Love tight ponytails

“Ponytail” is a classic and very simple hairstyle that is best forgotten in winter. Due to strong tension in the root zone, hair weakened by a lack of vitamins may begin to fall out during the active growth stage. The weakest “links”: the temporal and marginal lines.

Go to the steam room without a hat

Winter is the time for baths and saunas (what could be better than a birch broom and linden tea in the cold?). When going for a “light steam”, don’t forget a special hat made of felt or wool: it will help protect your scalp from burns, and your hair from aggressive thermal effects (hydrogen bonds begin to break down at 45 degrees!). A towel is not suitable for these purposes - cotton easily allows air to pass through. Hats made of synthetic fabrics are also not best option. Felt is a good thermal insulator. Give preference to unpainted models in a natural gray color.

Do not use moisturizers along the entire length

The concept of “oily hair” does not exist! Sebaceous glands are located only on the scalp - along the length of the strands they are dry (especially at the ends). Masks and conditioners for the ends and root zone should be different. Products intended for scalp care should not contain too much oil and silicone - they create a film that disrupts metabolic processes. But in those that are applied along the length, olive, coconut, almond, sea buckthorn oil- ideal ingredients for winter care.

Chose the wrong comb

In winter, due to contact with clothing, the hair becomes highly electrified (static electricity has a detrimental effect on its structure). Special sprays, masks and combs will help you cope with this. For the autumn-winter period, give up plastic models (or choose those that remove them), giving preference to wooden, ebonite and ceramic (or with natural pile).

Washing your hair with too hot water

Hot water perfectly washes away dirt, excess sebum and other impurities from the scalp. When it’s minus outside, you want to add a couple more degrees to warm up. Don't do this. You need to wash your hair with water room temperature(even if you are very cold). Hot temperature provokes hypersecretion of the sebaceous glands. Hair gets dirty faster at the roots, becomes dull and lifeless.

Do not use conditioner after the mask

After some nourishing masks, it is necessary to use conditioner. Penetrating deep into the hair, the active ingredients of such products “lift” the scales. To close them, you need to create an acidic environment. The conditioner creates it. Apply it for a few minutes and then rinse your hair with cool water.
