Yandex is the most popular Internet browser in Russia, used by millions of people every day. Among them are children and teenagers, whose parents often want to protect their children from unwanted content. It is for this purpose that the Yandex browser provides a family filter function, with which you can remove materials in the 18+ category from search results.

But sometimes situations arise when this useful feature needs to be disabled. For example, you have already downloaded a browser where the family filter was enabled by default. In this article we will tell you how to disable the family filter in Yandex.

Disabling the family filter in a simple way

There is nothing complicated in the shutdown process; everything is intuitive. To disable the family filter in your browser, you need to follow these steps:

All that remains is to check whether the function is disabled by entering some query and viewing the results.

Important clarification. To ensure that your new settings remain permanently and do not revert back to their previous state over time, sign in to your account before changing them.

Another way to disable the family filter

It may happen that the method described above will not give the desired result, and search results will continue to be limited. Then you should resort to the following sequence of actions:

Disabling Family Filter via DNS

Sometimes the filtering function is enabled not in the browser or a separate program, but at the system level. This could be a restriction via DNS or the hosts file.

First, let's describe how to disable the filter via DNS:

Now you need to check the hosts file for redirects. You can find this file by following the path Windows -> System32 -> drivers -> etc. Open the file with a text editor, for example, Notepad. When the file opens, carefully look to see if there is an inscription 213.180.193.56 yandex.ru. Found it? Then we delete and save the changes made.

That's all, your internet browser's search results are full again.

What is Parental Control?

Why do you need Parental Controls?

We live in an age information technology– Nowadays, every schoolchild has a phone or smartphone, many parents even buy tablets for their kids.

Undoubtedly, modern children are confident computer and Internet users—by the age of ten, almost all of them have pages on online services. Statistics show that this is the average age at which independent use begins social networks. At ten years old! It is not surprising that parents who initially allowed their child to use the Internet soon begin to think about dangerous and inappropriate sites for children that are distributed on the Internet. Now this problem is really acute. In a certain sense, the Internet is very useful and contributes to the development of a child, but at the same time, it is worth thinking about the risks associated with the promotion of adult materials or prohibited materials, which a child, with an unformed understanding of some things, immediately remembers.

How does Parental Control work?

The first thing you need to do after installing Adguard when setting up parental controls is password protection so that your child cannot bypass the access restrictions you have selected. Then you select the user who will be protected by our module. And adjust the sensitivity level.

The sensitivity level determines which sites will be allowed to access and which will be denied. Essentially, it determines how extensive website filtering will be for a given user.

So, what is included in Adguard Parental Control protection?

You can prevent downloading of executable files. This means that child control will prohibit downloading dangerous programs to your computer.

We have already noted the level of sensitivity. From the three levels available, you can choose protection for a child whose age is 3 years and older, 10 years and older, 13 years and older. The younger the user is, the stricter the filtering will be.

If you think that it is too early for your child to be on certain social networks or visit any specific sites, you can add their URL (address) to the blacklist. The white list is a reverse tool that allows you to add a site to exceptions.

Password protection. Website browsing will be limited. A child will be able to access it only with your permission. Whether these pages are safe for children or not is up to you to decide.

We recommend creating a separate limited account for your child to, as an administrator, provide full control over what sites he visits on the Internet. You can view instructions on how to do this on the Microsoft website by selecting your operating system on the right (Windows 7, Vista, 8, 8.1).

Parental control of the Adguard program will make the Internet safe for children and provide peace of mind for parents. You can see how our Internet censor for children works by downloading it for free for review on our official website.

Age restrictions for games and applications indicate what audience the content is intended for.

Age restrictions are set by the developers and the IARC (International Age Ratings Coalition) agency. In South Korea, they are approved by the GRAC (Game Rating Administration Committee).

Where are the age restrictions?

The age limit is listed under the game or app name on the details page.

To learn more about the age limit, click on the icon Read more… You will see information about what content and interactive features are present in the application.

Where are the age restrictions for instant apps?

Here's how to find them:

What does the age limit mean for a game or application?

The age limit for content is set based on several factors. More information can be found below.

Age limit and description

Age restrictions indicate how old a user must be to access content. However, they do not mean that the application is intended for any specific age group.

The limit depends on several factors, including the presence of obscene language, scenes of a sexual or violent nature, drug use and mentions of gambling.

To find out why an app has been given a certain age rating, click the icon Read more… on the app details page.

Interactive features

See the Learn More section on the app page for information about interactive features. For example, a program might share users' locations or allow them to interact with each other.

Note. The interactive features of the application are not related to its age restrictions.

What does the status "Unclassified" mean?

Apps that do not have an age limit specified are given the "Unrated" status. They are considered to be the highest age-rated apps.

If you enable parental controls and set any age restrictions, apps with the "Unrated" status will be hidden in the Play Store.

What age restrictions apply in different countries?

Application age requirements are set by special local organizations.

IN different countries Google Play content restrictions may vary. To learn more, read the information for your country or region.

Games only

Age restrictions in South Korea are set by the GRAC (Game Rating and Administration Committee).

Sometimes age restrictions for games may be set based on the Google Play rating system, which is commonly used in South Korea to classify non-game applications (see the "Other Applications" section). In order for a game to be rated according to the system below, the developer must complete a new application in the Play Console.

Due to the fact that huge amounts of information today are in the public domain, some of it must be limited to a certain age category. Nowadays, any child can freely use computers or other devices, and access to the World Wide Web is practically unlimited.

Restricted access to the Internet is not only a problem for children. Many companies are also interested in such restrictions to improve the level of work of their employees.

How to organize parental control in Yandex browser?
Today there are many opportunities to solve this problem. Unfortunately, there is no one button that could protect against all problems.

To set restrictions in the Yandex browser, you need to apply several steps.

Family search

One of the simplest settings. As you know, when you enter a query into a search engine, it produces the most relevant (maximum matching) results in the search results list. By default, the Yandex browser is configured with a “moderate” search mode, which practically does not filter content. Thus, all unwanted sites for certain requests will be present in the search results.

Yandex has its own filter for such cases, but to activate it you need to enable it in your browser settings. To do this, first enable the Yandex search engine by default:

1.Open the browser menu and go to the “Settings” section.

2. Scroll to the “Search” item and set “Yandex” as default”:

Now go to the search settings page https://yandex.ru/search/customize and select “Family search”.

Important! In order for this filter to work on an ongoing basis, you must make sure that your browser stores cookies.

Antishock filter

This filter is a built-in function for the Yandex browser - also a kind of parental control. It can be used either separately or in combination with other settings and restrictions.

This setting will allow you to get rid of:

  • annoying pop-up advertising that imitates service notifications from various popular sites (will save you from losing passwords, personal data or money),
  • various “shock content” - banners with various pornographic, brutal, shocking videos,
  • automatic redirection to prohibited sites when you click on pages.

By default, this add-on is already enabled in the browser. In other cases, to turn it on, tear off:

  1. "Menu".
  2. "Additions".
  3. Find the “Ad blocking” section.
  4. “Anti-shock” – turn on.

Installing browser add-ons

The best parental control application for Yandex browser is Adult Blocker. You can install it directly from the Yandex application catalog. To do this, go to “Settings” -> “Add-ons” -> “Extension directory”:

A window will open with all extensions available for the browser. Let's use the search bar to quickly install the add-on:

Once the installation is complete, the plugin starts working automatically. One of the useful features of this plugin is password protection. To do this, click on the plugin icon in the browser window and set a password:

Connecting special DNS servers

This method is the most complete and global. The fact is that when setting up access to the Internet through a special filtering server, restrictions will apply not only to the Yandex browser, but also to all others installed on this device.

There are three types of filters:

  • Basic (server addresses - 77.88.8.8 and 77.88.8.1);
  • Secure (server addresses - 77.88.8.88 and 77.88.8.2);
  • Family (server addresses - 77.88.8.7 and 77.88.8.3).

The difference in protection capabilities can be seen in this comparison table:

How does this work

When attempting to search for specific information, the request is first processed by the search engine, which determines a list of relevant answers. Next, the entire selection of information is passed through the above-mentioned DNS filter and, when compared with the database, unwanted sites are eliminated (depending on the selected filter level). As a result, sites that have passed the system’s selection are included in the user search results.

How to set up

There are three options for setting up DNS:

  • Editing network connection properties in operating system.
  • Restricting access using the hosts file.
  • Enabling DNS in the router.

For the first option, we need to go to the “Network and Sharing Center” section. The shortest way is:

  • find your network icon on the taskbar;
  • Use the right key to open the context menu;
  • go to the required section.

In the window that opens, find “Connections” and go to the editing window:

Click “Properties” – “IP version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and “Properties” again:

Having walked this long path, we finally reach our goal - in this window we can edit network access and register our server addresses depending on the selected level of protection:

Click “OK”. If you need to disable this mode, you will have to go the same way and in the last window select “Obtain DNS” automatically.

There are cases when the network is already configured to work with certain DNS servers. In this case, the previous option cannot be applied. In this case, it is necessary to use the capabilities of the hosts file.

Interesting! This type of setting has the highest priority over any other DNS settings. Thus, it can be used in conjunction with other settings.

It should be noted that for further operations you must have administrator rights.

1. Find the hosts file on the computer. It is located in the system folder with the path C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc (you can copy this line and paste it into the folder’s address bar and press “Enter”):

2. In the folder that opens, find the required file and open it using notepad.

Attention! It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy before making changes to this file. In case of any errors, it will be possible to return the system to its original form.

3. You only need to make one change to this file - add the following address at the very end: 213.180.193.56 yandex.ru

The router configuration option is more complex. There is no single instruction due to the fact that each manufacturer has its own setup menu. But it all comes down to the fact that in the settings of your router you need to register one of the above DNS addresses from Yandex. To find out how to enable this option, read the instructions for your device.

The advantage of this option is that the restrictions will apply to all connected devices and the browsers used on them.

Third party services

In addition to restrictions in the Yandex browser or operating system itself, there are many parental filters from third-party manufacturers.

The most common programs that have such functionality are complex antivirus programs(Dr.Web Security Space 11, Kaspersky Internet Security, ESET NOD32, Smart Security).

In addition, specialized products have been developed aimed at protecting against unwanted content. Among the top ones we can highlight:

KinderGate. Parental Control. Allows you not only to prohibit unwanted content, but also to monitor all your child’s online activities.

KidsControl. Free program. Restricts access to many unwanted sites, including online games and social networks.

Children's browser Gogul. Has a certain set of allowed sites. Plus, it is possible to enable the function of limiting the time spent on the network.

Parents should remember that, unfortunately, there is no 100% protection from negative information on the Internet. You can always find workarounds, or disable existing protection. New sites appear, and attackers find ways to bypass filters. Don't rely on technology. Remember that “forewarned is forearmed.”

It wouldn’t hurt to conduct a little educational program with your child:

  • The child must understand that the Internet is, first of all, a helper.
  • Determine the time period within which the child will gain access to the network.
  • Explain that the Internet is not anonymous and you cannot disclose your personal data. Try to come up with a nickname that he will use online.
  • Tell him in advance about possible negative materials he may see online (adult content, drugs). Agree with him that if this happens, he will definitely tell you about it.
  • Talk to your child about the possibilities of online friendship, and that people on the other side of the screen are not always who they say they are. Ask him to consult with you before making such acquaintances.
  • Tell us about scammers who cheat you out of money. Tell them that you cannot send SMS or enter bank card details on websites. There are no freebies, and all kinds of prizes and gifts are just a way to deceive a person. If he needs to buy something, do it with him.

As a result, we can say that only an integrated approach to child safety can guarantee a satisfactory result. Do not neglect the possibilities, try to study the problem thoroughly and implement the proposed solutions.
