Today in our Top 12 we will talk about the best pitfalls of the anime industry, which each of us has fallen into at least once. We'll talk about gender traps, a favorite way for anime and manga writers to troll their fans.
But before we start our top, as always, a few formalities:
First: Gender trap (from the English trap - trap, trap) is an anime or manga character (usually a person), in all external signs similar to a representative of the opposite, and not his own, sex. Simply put, it's all the girls who are actually guys (regular trap) and all the guys who are actually girls (reverse trap). We have collected them in our Top 12.
Second: revealing the secret of the gender of a character whose gender identity is supposed to raise doubts is a small but spoiler. It is also possible that, having changed clothes, he does not show the sweet traits of his character at all, but severe narcissism, which infuriates those around him.

"Werewolf Detective Inaba" is an absurd comedy, so few people were surprised when the lovely girl working in a team with the main character turned out to be a guy. However, the desire Utah appearing as a cute girl in the eyes of others is so great and so contrary to his real essence that he is fully worthy of 10th place in our top.

Hotaru Tachibana
"Why? Why is he a girl?!” I lamented, having bought into the poster with the cute main character, after watching the first episode of the series, which started in early July. Resembling both Oz Vessalius (“Pandora Hearts”) and William Twining (“Demons and the Realist”), the main character turned out to be the main character.
Nagisa Shiota
This is actually a gangway that was not designed to be a gangplank. Nagisa, according to the author, was supposed to look like just a frail guy. However, the character's original design, particularly his twin ponytails, short stature and handsome figure, led fans to question his gender identity. The situation was further aggravated by the fact that neither in the manga nor in the anime did anyone focus on appearance Nagisa(as is usually the case with ladders) until a certain point. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when we were finally shown the swimsuit episode, where it became clear that Nagisa– after all, a hero, not a heroine.
Radical Edward
Perhaps the biggest mystery of the series, which was released 17 years ago, has long been the gender of this character. Edward- a young genius, a computer hacker who can hack anything. As the series progresses, he does all sorts of strange things, the least of which is walking barefoot and talking about himself in the third person. Getting dressed Ed in the most modest way: a T-shirt and shorts... And all this, including her name (even if it is not real), makes it impossible to identify her as a girl. However Edward– a real girl, sweet and vulnerable somewhere very deep in her soul.
